Monterubbiano if you are overcome by the stress of city life and you close your eyes and imagine a green silent corner of the world where the smell of city smog is replaced by the perfume of fragrant orchards, then Monterubbiano is the place for you.

In 1433 Monterubbiano was conquered by Francesco Sforza, who made it be fortified and then donated it to the Papal States.

It was on of Farfensi possessions and in 1586 Sisto V declared it independent on Montalto; then it was conquered by the French and annexed to the Kingdom of Italy in 1860.

Town walls much larger than the built-up area surround the present village; they are equipped with three fortalices whose only remains are the ones of Cassero, in the Palace Secreti. In the centre of the village there are the Town hall and the Battlement Tower, an evidence of the Ghibelline period.

On the first floor of the Town Hall there are the Picture-gallery and the Archaeological Museum. Palace Onesti built in 1553 and S.Maria of Lettereati’s Church keeping the wonderful “Assunzione della Vergine” by Vincenzo Pagani, a well-known painter born there at the end of XV century who produced many other valuable works, overlook the square.
